I have a complicated relationship with felt-tip liquid liners. Nothing—but nothing—beats the precision I get with my MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack paired with my MAC 210 brush. I just can't seem to get the same effortless, even, smooth lines with felt-tips. (I know they're supposed to be for beginners. Does that make me weird?) But when I'm rushing through the morning and I'm fuzzy in the head, I really don't want to bother with cleaning the gel out of my brush. This is where felt-tip liners come in handy. Quick, simple and NO washing! Plus, the lovely, pointed tips are my only hope of ever mastering the cat eye. Sigh.
Make Up For Ever has introduced their own version of a black felt-tip liquid liner called Graphic Liner. I've tried a few others: MAC's Penultimate is meh. The tip isn't the finest, and I found it dried out quickly. Kat von D's Tattoo Liner in Trooper, beloved in the beauty world, has been my personal favourite since I first tried it a year to two ago.
So how does Make Up For Ever Graphic Liner compare to the famous Kat von D?
|MUFE Graphic Liner||Kat von D Trooper|
|Fine tip||Finer tip|
|Felt tip||Individual brushes stuck together|
|Deep black||Deep black|
|Satin finish||Satin finish|
|Simple cap, doesn't "click" when you fasten it||Spring-loaded cap "clicks" when you close it|
|0.03 oz. of product||0.02 oz. of product|
|Not waterproof but longwearing, doesn't move when applied||Waterproof, longwearing, doesn't move when applied|
Ounce for ounce, I do like that the MUFE Graphic Liner is cheaper. In terms of how the liners wear and look, I'd say it's a draw. The Kat Von D tip is finer, but I'm not fussed about that: I do prefer a slightly thicker line.
The packaging of MUFE's liner does make me a bit nervous. The cap doesn't seem as secure as Kat Von D's, but I have yet to test that. Additionally, I haven't yet seen how the felt tip will last: It seems like Kat Von D's tip, fashioned differently than MUFE's standard tip, will last longer without getting floppy, but again, I haven't tested that. The good news is that I've been using the MUFE liner for a month thus far with no problems!

The verdict: In a battle between the MUFE liner and the Kat von D liner, it's so close. Product-wise, I have a very tiny preference for the Kat Von D, but price is important, man. So MUFE might win—by a hair.
Rating: Four stars out of five.
Available: Sephora stores and Sephora.ca for $29 Canadian (you get 1 mL, or 0.03 oz.).
