MAC Fluidline (Gel Eyeliner) in Blacktrack: Review and Photos

MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack.

Today is the day I get to share one of my all-time favourite products with you: MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack. A MAC artist introduced me to it a couple of years ago, and...I'm on my third pot!

Gel eyeliner is the perfect compromise between pencil and liquid, in my opinion. It's the precise, delicious look of liquid with the ease of a pencil. Win!

Blacktrack is a wonderful, deep-black matte colour that glides on smoothly to make my eyes look huge and my eyelashes look lovely and thick. The wear time is great—I get 10 or so hours out of it before I sometimes notice a very little bit of fading or smudging under the eye—but nothing major at all (and I'm picky). No flaking or transferring, as can be common with liquid.

One of my favourite things about gel liner like this is the minimal waste: No sharpening, and no felt-tip applicators that dry out.

Another fabulous feature is the ease of application—but be warned that a brush is absolutely necessary, and the quality/kind of brush can make a huge difference. For example, years ago, I tried Clinique's version of this, but I didn't like it much at all because I was too cheap to buy a proper brush—I used the tiny little thing that came with it. Forget that. Invest in a proper brush, such as the MAC 209, 210, or 266 (or a cheaper dupe). You won't regret it—trust me, friends. I favour the 210 for the precision—I like fine, even lines. (I haven't mastered the feline flick, so I couldn't say what brush is best for that. It's hard to talk about.)

It comes in a chic, heavy glass jar—remember to screw the lid on tight to keep it fresh. My ONLY beef with this product is that it dries out a bit before I can get through it—but I find a drop of Fix+ refreshes it nicely.

Ready for a look?

MAC Fluidline eyeliner comes in a heavy glass jar.

MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack is part of MAC"s permanent collection.

MAC Fluidline gel eyeliner in Blacktrack. You get three grams of product, which is plenty. A jar lasts me five months or so of almost daily use.

MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack swatched very, very heavily with a MAC 210 brush.

MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack on my upper lash line. (On my lids: NYX eyeshadow in Iced Mocha.)

Would I repurchase? Without a doubt. This is a staple in my makeup bag.

Rating: Four and a half stars out of five—it would be a five if the texture didn't change (dry out) after a few months of use.

Available: You can find it at Maccosmetics.com and anywhere else MAC Cosmetics are sold for $19 Canadian.

Have you tried MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack or another colour? What about another brand's gel eyeliner? Let me know in the comments—I'd love to see links to looks that you've created!
