If you've been reading my blog awhile, you know I have a soft spot for MAC Paint Pots. They're creamy, (usually) opaque, and so versatile—I use them as eyeshadow base, eye colour, and, occasionally, eyeliner. Applied as a base, they make sure eyeshadows don't move, and they make colour more vibrant or deeper (depending on the colour of the Paint Pot). I love 'em.
This promotional image is what made me fall in love:
Gorgeous, luscious warm brown. Love it! Alas, a MAC makeup artist informed me that a powder eyeshadow had been layered over Constructivist for this look. This becomes obvious as soon as you swatch Constructivist on its own. MAC describes it as "metallic brown with red pearl," but the colour on the model above is much redder than Constructivist on its own.
This knowledge did not deter me—I loved how dark and deep Constructivist looked on my eyes. I'll wear it alone or as a base for a brown smoky eye.
Quality-wise, Constructivist is par for the course. It's creamy, opaque, and long-lasting. I also see no difference in wear time between regular MAC Paint Pots and the Pro Longwear Paint Pots—all I've tried are awesome.
I have only two small complaints with Paint Pots: One, they set quickly, so you need to be sure of yourself when you wear them. Apply and blend an eye at a time. Two, they may dry out faster than I can use them up. Note that this has happened only with Bare Study so far—all my other Paint Posts are still creamy and wonderful. I'll keep you posted.
Ready for a look?
In an attempt to come up with a colour like the one the model is wearing in the promo image, I layered MAC Mulch, a powder eyeshadow, over Constructivist. This was the result—not quite, but close. Has anyone tried a different colour with better results?
Would I repurchase? If it ever runs out, I'll think about replacing it—though there's always another beautiful brown eye colour to try! (Can you ever have too many?)
Rating: Four and a half stars out of five.
Available: Online at maccosmetics.com, and anywhere else MAC Cosmetics are sold. This shade is now permanent.
Have you tried MAC Pro Longwear Paint Pot in Constructivist? What did you think? I'd love to hear and see what you've paired it with!
