A Festive Eye of the Day Using Charlotte Tilbury's The Rebel Palette

Yesterday I added my sixth (eep!) Charlotte Tilbury eyeshadow palette to my stash. Charlotte's Luxury Eyeshadow Palette in The Rebel is a gorgeous quad built around jewel-toned greens, and it's perfect for when you're looking for a little drama—like the Christmas season! I wore this today for a Christmas concert.

Here's the breakdown:

  • Primed my eyelids with NARS Pro Prime Smudge-Proof Eyeshadow Base
  • Applied the Rebel palette's Prime shade, a shimmery, creamy ivory, all over my lid, from lash line to brow bone, with a small blending brush
  • Applied the Enhance shade, a shimmering emerald green, from my lash line to above the crease, with a large blending brush
  • Applied the Smoke shade, a shimmering peacock blue-green, in my crease with a small blending brush
  • Applied the Prime shade to my brow bone with a blending brush and to my inner corner with a flat brush (a strange choice, I know—I left my regular brushes at work, so I was working with my B stash!)
  • Applied the Pop shade, a mossy green with gold micro-glitter, to my mobile lid using my finger
  • Lined my upper and lower waterlines and lower lash line with Marc Jacobs Beauty Highliner Gel Eye Crayon Eyeliner in Blacquer
  • Lined my upper lash line with Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner in Black Ink using a thin eyeliner brush
  • Applied the Smoke shade to my lower lash line using a small detailer brush
  • Blended my lower lash line with the Prime shade using a pencil brush
  • Applied lots of Make Up For Ever Smoky Extravagant Mascara to my upper and lower lashes

This isn't an everyday look, but I absolutely love it. It's so much fun. And Charlotte's eyeshadows just make it so easy. They're smooth and buttery and blend so easily. There's a bit of fallout if you have a lot on your brush, but it's nothing a little tap beforehand and a little concealer afterward won't fix.

Yep, The Rebel wins. I tell myself I don't need any more of Charlotte's palettes...but we'll see how long that lasts!

What eyeshadow looks have you come up with lately? I'd love to see them—let me know in the comments!

Review and Photos: MAC Bare My Soul Eyeshadow Quad

MAC Bare My Soul Eyeshadow Quad, part of the Temperature Rising collection (summer 2013).

MAC Bare My Soul Eyeshadow Quad, part of the Temperature Rising collection (summer 2013).

Aren't MAC limited edition collections are getting tiresome? Isn't there a new one every week? If you have an unlimited budget, I suppose it's exciting. For me, it's exhausting. Punishing. Gruelling. How dare MAC make me need that 60th pan of eyeshadow? They're going to break me.

To the detriment of my bank account, the Bare My Soul eyeshadow quad fell into the need category. As soon as I laid eyes on it online, I thought, "You must be mine." I love warm, earthy colours. As a green-eyed gal, this mix of browns, gold, and a unique green is pretty much perfect. (The heart wants what the heart wants.)

Starting from the top left in the photo above, we have Friendly, a warm, dark brown with golden shimmer. It has a Veluxe Pearl finish. It reminds me a little of Mulch, but I'd say Mulch is much more coppery. It's also lighter.

To the right of Friendly, we have Romantico, which is probably my favourite colour in the palette. I'd describe it as a brownish champagne colour, with a touch of pink. It has a Veluxe Pearl finish.

Right underneath that is Bare My Soul, which is a perfect, muted gold colour. It reminds me of brass, and it has a Lustre finish.

Finally, we have When in Rio, a unique forest-green/brown duo-chrome. It has a Frost finish.

Some of MAC's limited-edition releases have been hit or miss lately. This one is a definite hit. The texture of everything except When In Rio is excellent—and even then, it's nothing a bit of extra work with the 217 can't fix. All shadows wear beautifully over Painterly Paint Pot. They don't budge, and there's almost no fallout. Good one, MAC!

Swatches of MAC"s Bare My Soul eyeshadow quad. Left to right: Romantico, Bare My Soul, Friendly, and When in Rio. I found everything swatched true to pan except When in Rio. I had to layer quite a bit for it to look more green than brown.

MAC's Bare My Soul eyeshadow quad, applied. I put Romantico all over the lid, then tapped Bare My Soul over the middle of the lid to brighten it up a bit. Then I blended Friendly into my crease and added When in Rio to the outer corner.

MAC Bare My Soul quad, applied. Same look, different angle. What do you think?

Would I repurchase? If I could. I definitely see myself hitting pan on everything except When in Rio. Alas, this quad is limited edition. But MAC seems to have a habit of re-promoting certain shades every few years. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Rating: Four stars out of five. Everything except When in Rio is a home-run.

Available: It's sold out on Maccosmetics.com, but you can try your local MAC store. There are also several floating around on eBay—but shop carefully and be prepared to pay above the retail price of $52 Canadian.

Have you tried this quad or anything else from MAC's Temperature Rising collection? What did you think? Let me know in the comments!
