Bubblegum Lip Scrub and The Kiss Lip Gloss by LUSH: Micro-Review

Top: The Kiss Lip Gloss. Bottom: Bubblegum Lip Scrub.

The advent of Valentine's Day coupled with cooler weather that's been making my lips sore and chapped seemed like a perfect excuse to duck into LUSH and try out some lip goodies. This is what I came out with: Bubblegum Lip Scrub and The Kiss Lip Gloss

Bubblegum Lip Scrub is, essentially, bubblegum-flavoured sugar with jojoba oil for moisture. The taste is sweet, just like bubblegum, and I'm told it's edible, which makes removal quite easy! It leaves your lips soft and smooth—it's a great prep for lipstick. The only downside is application. It's quite crumbly, so you'll want to scoop a bit out (the size of a very small pearl) and apply it carefully to your lips. Be prepared to spill a few granules—you might want to apply it over the sink!

The Kiss, part of LUSH's limited-edition Valentine's Day collection, is a smooth, shiny, moisturizing lip balm with a sweet, candy-like flavour (a lovely follow-up to the lip scrub) that leaves a faint pink tint on the lips. I don't love applying lip product with my fingers—it feels unsanitary—but it's not a big deal.

The verdict: Overall, these are a great winter treat for my lips!

Rating: Four stars out of five. Nice products, but a little pricey.

Available: LUSH stores for $9.25 (The Kiss, 6 grams of product) and $9.95 (Bubblegum Scrub, 25 grams of product). At the time of writing, the Bubblegum Lip Scrub was available at www.lush.ca, but The Kiss was out of stock.

Both products are vegan (yahoo!). Visit LUSH's website for ingredient lists.

LUSH Rose Jam Shower Gel: Micro-Review

LUSH Rose Jam Shower Gel (500 mL)

I snagged this "jug" of Rose Jam Shower Gel from LUSH a week or two ago after sampling it at a blogging event and then waiting *forever* for it to show up in store. It's one of the more delicious scents in my shower, and I'm thoroughly enjoying its limited-edition goodness.

LUSH products are all about being cruelty-free, so in addition to the products smelling divine, you can feel good when you use them, knowing no animals were harmed and you're not putting any harmful chemicals onto your body. Added bonus for Rose Jam: It's vegan.

LUSH describes the scent this way:

Sweet, tart, and wonderfully fresh, this indulgent blend of rose, vanilla and lemon will leave you smelling purely blissful.

I'd say the description is a hit—this smells like a not-too-rich dessert with a hint of berries (but perhaps what I'm smelling is the lemon and the vanilla).

This gel lathers up beautifully on my bath puff and leaves a light scent on the skin. The only downer: the price. $30 is an awful lot even for a half litre of shower gel—so I'll be savouring every last drop of this one-time purchase.

Have you tried Rose Jam or any other LUSH products? Would you repurchase? Let me know in the comments!
