Make Up For Ever Aqua Rouge Lipstick in O1 Nude Beige: Micro-Review

Make Up For Ever Aqua Rouge in 01 Nude Beige.

A lovely PR from MUFE sent me an Aqua Rouge Lipstick in 01 Nude Beige to review around the holidays, and I was floored by the formula as soon as I tried it. A lip colour that stays in place ALL DAY (even through a meal) and is…wait for it…comfortable? Say WHAT?

Yes, my friends, Aqua Rouge is all that and a bag of chips. The magic is in the double-application, I think. You apply the waterproof liquid colour with the doe-foot applicator, let it set, and then apply the clear gloss with the included little brush over top, and then as needed throughout the day. Somehow, the two products don't mix together. You can wipe the clear gloss off, and your colour will stay intact and opaque. (In fact, it can be a pain to remove!) If you're a fan of matte colours, you could skip the gloss—but I'd find the formula drying without it.

The day I got this in the mail, I had to physically restrain myself from running to Sephora and buying a couple more colours. The formula felt like that much of a miracle. Alas, the colour, 01 Nude Beige, just does absolutely nothing for me. It's a neutral-ish light brown, and I don't think it's at all flattering with my fair, rosy skin. Perhaps I'd feel differently if I liked wearing nude lips, but…I don't. At all. My lips are naturally fairly pink, so I never feel compelled to "blot out" the colour.

Here's a quick swatch:

The verdict: I'm totally going to pick up another shade (or three) of Aqua Rouge.

Rating: Colour is a subjective thing, so I'm going to rate the formula at 5 stars out of 5.

Available: Sephora,, and MUFE stores (if you can find one) for $29 Canadian.

Have you tried any of Make Up For Ever's Aqua Rouge colours? Which are your favourites?
