Reviews and Photos of MAC Lipglass in Hellbound and Extra Dimension Eyeshadow in Silver Dawn: The Fourth Day of Christmas

My picks from MAC's new Metallic Nude Collection, Lipglass in Hellbound and Extra Dimension Eyeshadow in Silver Dawn.

I really should stop reading about MAC product releases. It's bad for my bank account. And for my bathroom, which has long since run out of room for more makeup. But who can resist shopping on Boxing Day? (For any American readers, it's kind of like Canada's Black Friday.) Sigh.

I showed restraint and picked up only two items from MAC's new Metallic Nude Collection: Extra Dimension Eyeshadow in Silver Dawn, and Lipglass in Hellbound.

MAC's website describes Silver Dawn as a dirty-grey mauve, but I don't see the purple in it. I'd say it's more of a greenish-gold pewter colour. It reminds me of a darker version of Patina with more depth and shimmer.

Hellbound is described as brick-red with gold pearl, which is bang on. I love this colour—it screams "holidays!" to me. If you're not quite ready for a full-on red lip, this is a great gateway product. Maybe give it a try for New Year's Eve!

Quality-wise, these products are par for the course in MAC-land. Silver Dawn is pigmented, easy to blend, and long wearing. Hellbound is a bit sticky (normal for a MAC Lipglass), but pigmented, shimmery, and lovely. Both come in standard black MAC packaging, though Silver Dawn has the Extra Dimension stamp on the top and is slightly larger (2 g instead of the usual 1.5) and costs a few dollars more than standard shadows.

For this look, I applied MAC Extra Dimension Eyeshadow in Silver Dawn to my lids, then blended MAC Mulch into my crease and outer corner. I finished it off with MAC Jaunty on the brow bone and a bit of MAC Crystal Avalanche on the inner corner. I'm wearing MAC Lipglass in Hellbound on my lips—no liner.

The verdict: These are a win. I'll be hoping against all hope that MAC repromotes these shades before too long. (And if they brought Hellbound out as a less-sticky Cremesheen Glass, all the better!)

Rating: Four and a half stars out of five. I'd prefer that the Lipglass be a leeetle less sticky, but that's par for the course with Lipglass. (I wore it to the hairdresser today—imagine having your hair blown out with glue on your lips. Ugh.) Additionally, I don't see a need for Extra Dimension Eyeshadows to be bigger/more expensive. My collection has grown to well over 100 shades. That is, I may never hit pan on most…extra product just seems like a waste.

Available:, MAC counters, and anywhere else MAC cosmetics are sold for C$22.50 (Eyeshadow) and C$18 (Lipglass).

Disclosure: These products were purchased by Eyeshadow Addict.

Are you planning on trying anything from MAC's Metallic Nude Collection? If so, what?

Happy Fourth Day of Christmas! Are you enjoying a holiday break? We celebrated my husband's birthday today with The Hobbit and delicious dinner, so I got to wear the look above out on the town! Wahoo!
