Brazilian Bum Bum Cream: The body cream that is worth its exorbitant price tag

Brazilian Bum Bum Cream by Sol de Janeiro.

When I first saw Brazilian Bum Bum Cream on, I scoffed. $57 for a body cream? No way. No WAY. Yet it kept getting surprisingly good reviews. And I made the mistake of smelling it one day in Sephora. (Yeah.)

So while standing in line to pay for my purchases during a recent VIB sale, I saw a mini version for "only" $25 (minus the 20 per cent!) and thought, "What the heck?"

It was a dangerous, costly move (literally), my lovelies. Because the truth revealed itself that day: I can never, ever be without this cream again. No matter that it doesn't actually do a thing to chase away my cellulite with its fancy-shmancy super-caffeine stuff. (Nothing works for my cellulite besides weight loss—I don't expect it to.)

The smell is almost other-worldly: Nutty, coconutty, sweet, but not too sweet, and tropical. Like a white-sand beach in Hawaii. I want to take a bath in this scent. Then there's the fact that it's incredible at what it does. My skin is sensitive and dry, so I need to use a good, rich lotion daily. But I have zero patience for products that feel greasy and take forever to soak in. (I'm looking at YOU, Body Shop Body Butter.) This one soaks in almost immediately. And, as a bonus, it leaves a beautiful, but subtle sheen on the skin that is perfect in the summer, and a luxurious treat at every other time of year.

Is the $57 price tag painful? Absolutely. BUT, when you factor in the fact that the large tub, at 8.1 ounces, is much larger than any $10 tube of cream from the drugstore, it's slightly less offensive. And if you wait for one of the VIB sales like I do, it's almost reasonable. Sort of. (Okay, not really. But I do it anyway.)

Weird downside: My cat HATES the smell of this. He literally runs away when he smells it on me. Small price to pay.

If you're not ready to commit, you could try the 2.5-ounce tub for $25. (But get the big tub. I promise you'll love it, and it's better bang for your buck. You're welcome.)

Have you tried Sol de Janiero's Brazilian Bum Bum (pronounced "boom boom") cream? Are you planning to? If not, does the name at least make you giggle? Let me know in the comments!
